Christopher began playing his uncles cornet at the age of eleven soon after which he joined his local Brass Band. He went on to study Cornet and Trumpet at Birmingham Conservatoire with tutors Ian Porthouse (Cornet) , Richard Marshall (Cornet) and Andy Stone-Fewings (Trumpet). In addition to regular lessons Christopher has participated in master classes with Roger Webster, Denis Wick, Peter Bassano, Paul Archibald and Kristian Steenstrup.
Within the Conservatoire he played with the Wind Orchestra, in which he recently played Principal Cornet under the direction of Guy Wolfenden and co-principal cornet in the Brass Band conducted by Ian Porthouse and many other banding legends including Philip Wilby and Elgar Howarth. Christopher has also performed on trumpet with the BMus Big Band under Percy Pursglove and the Contemporary Music Ensemble, Thumb.
In addition to Conservatoire ensembles, Chrsitopher played for one of the Midlands championship Brass Bands, Sovereign Brass, who perform regularly in venues including Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and worked regularly with Major Peter Parkes. Christopher has also played for many other top bands in the midlands and has toured in France, Germany and Luxemberg.
More recently, Christopher has performed with Unite the Union (City of Sheffield) Brass Band and Ensemble and the New Northern Philharmonic Orchestra.
